PAINTING THE TOWN PINK

I'm getting so bored of wearing black, grey and dull colours especially now the weather is sort of starting to warm up. This happens to me every year, about this time of year I put away all of my big wooly jumpers and long sleeved tops and what I'm left with is a few creased summer dresses and Birkenstock dupes that are falling apart. The need is then to online shop like mad and buy loads of new things, but this year I'm trying to take a more strategic approach and not just panic buy loads of trend pieces (probably because I don't have the money as I'm paying off my summer holiday)..

My aim is to introduce a lot more colour into my wardrobe. Especially during Spring and Summer wearing bright colours makes me feel happier and more positive in general. Additionally, buying basic pieces is also a must. That standard grey t-shirt, those blue 'mom' jeans will also help to build your wardrobe. Having only trend, colourful pieces will just be a struggle to create any sort of outfit.

A couple of weeks ago when I was in Bath with my family, I picked up these gorgeous bright fuchsia wide legged trousers from Topshop. As soon as I saw them I was thinking about all the different ways I could style them. They look great with a smart 'going-out' top and heels but they also look amazing with a logo t-shirt and trainers. They're so eye catching, and every time I've worn them I have so many people come up to me and ask where I bought them. Which is a great feeling.

Here I've styled them with a basic striped t-shirt from Zara (a wardrobe staple) and my black denim Levi's jacket (which my boyfriend found in a charity shop.. and also a wardrobe staple!).. and then of course my Old Skool Vans which I wear with EVERYTHING and should probably wear some of my other shoes now and again..

I really love this look and I'm definitely aiming to buy a few more statement pieces to build up a great summer wardrobe. I would love to add a few more patterned summer dresses, maybe a skirt or two and some of those black and white checkered slip on vans.

Let me know what you think?

(BIG thanks to Lewis (instragram: kaytralewlew) for taking these amazing pictures for me!

THE TRENCH COAT: A Must Have

The Trench Coat is a classic Spring staple. I picked mine up in Rokit Vintage in Covent Garden for about £15.00 and I looooove the shape of it - it's oversized, boxy and pretty long. Every year when Spring comes around, different styles and variations of a Trench Coat come out and sometimes I can't help but endlessly scroll through Asos, Topshop, Zara and try to stop myself from ordering about 5 more..

You can style them in so many different ways and they can work for a lot of different occasions. I've styled it in a really casual way with a baggy Gingham shirt from Zara, some pleated black culottes from New Look and some white Stan Smiths - this is my favourite way to wear a trench because my style is always super chilled and casual.

You could also wear it a lot smarter with black trousers or a dress with heels for a night out or for work. I really think they're investment pieces, although don't feel like you have to spend thousands on a Burberry one, there are so many on the high street that are just as good.. I'll link some below of some great styles that are on the high street right now:

Cheap Monday Soft Trench £160

Asos Zacro Belted Trench Coat With Asymmetric Hem £50

Topshop Gingham Trench Coat £79

Topshop Nylon Trench Coat £79

Mango Cotton Trench Coat £59.99

Mango Short Trench £69.99

Happy Shopping!

ADDING TOUCHES OF COLOUR..

So spring is kind of (hopefully) round the corner and by adding little touches of colour to an outfit makes me excited for warmer weather! This grey primark coat is a staple for me at the moment and I love how it just adds that minimal vibe to an outfit. I'm really into pink at the moment, and I bought the dusky beige pink ones in Topshop sale last year, and they are super flattering on. Pairing them with this bright tartan scarf from Topman really adds an uplifting touch to an outfit. Also, pink and grey go so perfectly together!
Luckily, this beautiful street that these blog pictures were shot down really helped me get in the spring mood..One day I will live in a street like this! (Fingers crossed).

ARE FLARES A THING?

When flares came back into fashion this year, I really wasn't so sure. Back when I was about 12 or 13, I had a cracking pair of faded denim flares with embroidered butterflies on them, but this year I could't really get my head around them. However, flares in the form of tracksuit bottoms interested me, and as soon as I tried a pair on I sort of fell in love. They are one of the comfiest things I own, and they seem to be really flattering on. I love that chilled outfit look, and they work perfect with a sweatshirt and trainers. I know this look isn't for everyone, but i'm definitely embracing it.

PS, I know my pictures are a bit grainy and crap at the moment, but I'm really trying to save up for a new camera, so bear with me.

WINTER WARMERS UPDATE..

So, this coat is my current obsession. It is such amazing quality and looks so much more expensive than it really was. It's a great Acne Shearling jacket dupe, but about an eighth of the price..... It's from Stradivarius and it was only £55.99. It's super thick and cosy, and keeps me so warm. It hasn't actually been cold at all in London, but i've been wearing it anyway because I love it that much! It really toughens up any outfit, but manages to add a slightly chic touch as well. It's definitely a wardrobe staple for me this winter!

WHAT IM WEARING:

MY THREE FAVOURITE AUTUMN LIPSTICKS..

Autumn is probably my favourite season.. (okay maybe second to Summer?!).. especially when it comes to make up looks. I love darker lipsticks, smokey eye looks and plum coloured blushers. I've somehow managed to narrow my favourite autumn lipsticks down to 3. These are the lipsticks that are my 'go-tos' in the autumn winter time.. and I shall explain more if you keep reading ..

So.. Mac - Whirl. What a beautiful shade. I have loved the lipliner version of this for a while, and I have fallen in love with the lipstick. It's a dark brown rosy colour and it looks so gorgeous on. It's so perfect for just during the day, but I can also wear it for a night out too. If you have never swatched this .. go to your nearest Mac now and do it!

Obviously I had to include a berry shade in my fav lipsticks collection! To be honest, I prefer to wear nudes and neutral colours on my lips. But, if I had to choose one of my favourite berry shades.. it would be this Topshop lipstick in 'The Damned'. It looks so much darker in the tube, but it's actually a really lovely raspberry, plum shade on the lips. Really lovely texture, and so affordable too.

Lastly, I had to go for Maybelline - Coffee Craze. This is such a lovely soft brown shade, and so easy to wear. I really love Maybelline lipsticks, they're super affordable and one of my favourite drugstore brands.

CURRENT BEAUTY FAVOURITES

So I've decided that after every month I will have a review of what my favourite beauty products have been. They change so frequently and I'm always trying out new make up items and skincare products. During September, I was still clinging onto looking slightly summery. So using light, sun kissed blushes and lots of highlighter was a must..

I'm so happy I purchased the Make Up Revolution Blush Palette in Hot Spice. Everytime I went into Superdrug it seemed to be sold out, and I completely understand why. All the shades add a lovely, healthy glow to your cheeks. The two end shades can be used as highlighters also. Additionally.. this palette was only £6.00. It can't get much better.

I've had this Nars Highlighter in the shade Albatross for a while now. Sometimes I forget about it, and then I rediscover it about in my make up stash and love it all over again. It looks quite white/silver, but on the skin it adds such a gorgeous, slightly golden glow. It looks so good on the top of the cheekbones.

As you can see from my favourites, I've been loving highlighters this past month. This Topshop Glow pot in Polished is slightly different. It's a cream highlighter, so it looks more natural and dewy on the skin. During the day I would just lightly pat this on the tops of my cheekbones, on my brow bone and down the centre of my nose. However on nights out, I will put the Nars Highlighter in Albatross on, and then dab a bit of this on the top for an extra glow.

This fragrance is beautiful. It is so difficult to describe perfumes in a written description, but if you like musky but fresh and slightly floral scents.. then you will love this. It's been the scent I have been wearing everyday this summer, but I will carry on wearing this through the autumn and winter months.

This YSL 'kiss and blush' in shade 12 is the perfect nude. It is a typical 'your lips but better' shade. I usually line my lips with the Mac Soar Lip Liner, and put this over the top. It is such a lovely creamy texture. You do need to top this up throughout the day, but definitely worth trying out.

This Mac Lipliner in Soar has been a favourite of mine for about a year.. so I thought I'd give it a mention in this post. It is such a lovely colour, that can be built up to create quite a dark plumy pink shade or you can wear it as a neutral shade underneath a nude lipstick. Definitely a must have in everyones make up bag..
